Google’s Android operating system is the most popular mobile OS in the world. There are over 1 billion active Google-Play users who have downloaded over 7.5 billion applications on their devices as of 2017.

However, many people do not know what programming language these apps are written in!

This article will explore that question and help you decide if you want to learn how to code for android os applications yourself!

The answer is Java. The Android SDK (Software Development Kit) and the IDE used to build android applications are written in this programming language, so it’s only natural that most apps on the OS use it as well. This makes sense- if you want to make a program for your phone, chances are pretty high that you’ll be using the same operating system!

The first step of making an app is deciding what type of app you would like to create: either a native or web application with Cordova/Phonegap; both will require some knowledge about java. If we were going by just one thing, then I’d say go with Cordova because it may not have all the features needed but does come preinstalled.
