The anime industry is an ever-changing and evolving beast. Trends come and go, new adaptations are released every season, and there’s always something to watch on Netflix. But what happens when the main character dies? There are plenty of examples where a main protagonist meets their end in dramatic fashion but,

How many can you name off the top of your head?

I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of anime where the protagonist meets their end at some point in the series, like Kakashi from Naruto or Saitama from One-Punch Man, but there are so many more that it’s very difficult to name them all. So today I’ll be looking back on some memorable “permanent” characters and what made them special. There’s a lot to cover here, with literally dozens of examples available for consideration (and even *more* if we’re talking about manga). The most common instance is when someone dies after fulfilling their purpose, whether they were always intended as a temporary character or not. For example, Asuna Yuuki was an important player in Sword Art Online.
