“Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way!”

is a song that most people know. It’s usually sung around Christmas time and it’s about bells. The lyrics are often changed to match the season and what you’re doing at the time of year. For example: “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had a very shiny nose.” or “We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”

It is thought that the song was written in 1857 and became a Christmas favorite because of its catchy tune. It’s also one of the most popular songs ever published for elementary school children! The actual writer of this famous, happy little carol isn’t known for certain but it has been suggested that an American by the name James Pierpont wrote it in Massachusetts. He might not have realized just how well-known his jingle would become over time but we’re glad he did write “Jingle Bells” anyway because it makes us very merry with joy when singing along to these lyrics! A few other things about bells: they are often used as symbols or decorations at celebrations like weddings, graduations, first commun.
