Antibiotics are a common form of antimicrobial agents. They can be used to prevent and treat bacterial infections, or they can be used as a prophylaxis against possible infection. However, many bacteria have developed resistance to antibiotics. This means that the use of antibiotics does not always work effectively in killing all the bacteria that would cause an infection.

Antibiotics incorporated into culture medium is one way to kill these resistant strains of bacteria and allow for successful treatment with less antibiotic exposure than other methods. The use of antibiotics as a prophylactic treatment is not always successful. For one, there are bacterial strains that have developed resistance to the antibiotic being used for prophylaxis.

In this case, bacteria may be resistant to many types of antibiotics and will therefore survive regardless of which type is used in a culture medium. This process can also cause more harm than good if an individual has no infection or only has low levels of bacteria present on their skin but still comes into contact with these highly concentrated antibiotics after they come out from the showering area where high concentrations are often found during water sanitation procedures.

Antibiotics incorporated into culture medium can work well at killing all different types even those that show signs of antimicrobial resist.
