I can’t believe how many marketing director positions I’ve read about in the last few months. I have read so many articles about marketing and sales in the industry I have lost count. The more I read about marketing and sales, the more confused I became with what to do in the positions I am considering. I would love to find out what it is I am not qualified for.
Because marketing and sales is a lot like painting a house. You need to be a pretty good manager to be qualified for such a job. That is why you get hired if you have a degree in marketing or sales. It is important that you have a good understanding of both jobs because the job of a marketing director is to “sell” the position to the right people.
I see this a lot with new managers who are new to marketing or sales. If you are not qualified, then I feel you shouldn’t apply. That is why we have a hiring board for sales and marketing. The board is a collection of people who have either worked with the company before or have worked with them for years. They have a wealth of experience in sales and marketing and are able to evaluate applicants and help us to hire the right candidate for the job.
This is where the marketing director position is most helpful. It’s one of the most important and hardest positions to fill, and it doesn’t even have to be a sales or marketing person. We hire marketing directors to help us with marketing and sales. The position is basically a sales manager, with a sales manager having a lot of management responsibilities.
