I’m a bit of a self-proclaimed perfectionist, so I’ve always been very aware of my appearance. This was always my biggest issue, but now I’ve made it so my appearance is actually my best friend.
I think it’s great to be as self-assured as possible, but I also think it’s a sign that you’re paying attention to how you look. We’re all so used to being surrounded by objects that it makes it hard to take in just how little things actually matter to us. As a result, we end up making ourselves miserable. Our self-awareness, in other words.
I’ve always been aware of my appearance, but I also know how I look. I feel very alone/stupid, or if I look bad I’m not feeling my best. I sometimes look down and feel like I’m in a dark room, so I don’t feel like I’m in a room with a ceiling. I don’t know why, but I do like my face, and I feel like I’m in a room with a ceiling.
That’s what we mean when we talk about self-awareness. It’s a sense of self that we don’t take for granted. But it’s also about taking notice of ourselves in the context of how others perceive us. For example, I don’t want to be thought of as ugly. That’s just what other people are like. I take great pleasure in noticing what others think about me. That’s why I usually look at myself in a mirror before I start doing anything.
The problem is when we don’t notice how others see us, and we start trying to act like how others see us. When we become self-aware, we can start to take greater notice of our own self-awareness. That can make us feel like we are better at noticing our own self-awareness than others.
Our brain is not built to fully process the information coming through at any given time. It’s not that our brain doesn’t know, it’s just that it’s not processing it all at once. Our brains are designed to process one thing at a time. Our brains are built to process the input as fast as possible.
When we are on autopilot we forget about the fact that we are on autopilot. When we can fully identify this, we can choose to change our habits and routines to give ourselves more time to process and respond to self-awareness.
I agree, we are on autopilot, but I can still choose to focus on my own self-awareness. I don’t think I’m too bad at it. I feel like I can really get a handle on what I’m doing, and when I’m not doing something, I can choose to re-focus my attention and energy.
