If your computer is starting to slow down, try these tips to help speed it up again. Start at the top and work your way down until you see noticeable improvements. If none of these work, it may be time to look into purchasing a new computer.

Make Sure You Are Up-To-Date

When you want your GPT-J predictive programs to run optimally, you must ensure you keep your computer up to date. Be sure to visit your settings and check for updates regularly. Optional updates can often help speed up your computer.

Close Extra Apps

Trying to run too many apps and programs simultaneously will slow your computer down. Similarly, having too many browser tabs open will slow your computer down. Therefore, you need to make sure you close any extra apps for the best speeds. If that doesn’t help, you’ll have to start cleaning your device.

Use External Memory

Using external memory devices, such as flash drives, can keep the number of files you have stored on your device to a minimum. That puts less of a strain on your computer so it can run easier. Similarly, you can use an external SSD to help improve memory space. These are a great way to reduce strain on hard drives and speed up computers.

Make Sure Your Software Isn’t Using Too Much Hard Drive Space

Your software uses memory space to operate. Make sure you go into the settings and ensure it isn’t using too much of your hard drive space. Make these changes and see if you notice any improvements. If you don’t see any differences but notice your hard drive is stuffed, be sure to take the next step.

Clean Your Hard Drive

While you’re checking on your hard drive space, clean it up. Delete any unnecessary files that you have stored on your device. Freeing up some extra storage space will improve your computer’s performance.

Adjust Your Software Appearance

Your software will probably look great and be filled with many visual effects. However, if left unchecked, those can take up a lot of space on your hard drive, slow down your computer, and make it harder to operate your small business. Adjust your software’s appearance if you have a small amount of RAM.

Pause OneDrive Syncing

You can decide where your files automatically save. You can either save them on your computer or OneDrive. Keeping them on OneDrive is good because it allows you to access them from anywhere and ensures you have digital copies if you ever lose or break your computer. However, the files must be synced from your device to the cloud, slowing down your computer. Fortunately, you can pause OneDrive syncing, making your device faster.

Disable Extra Startup Programs

When you start your computer, some programs will turn on automatically and run in the background, which slows down your device. Many programs are designed to operate this way: they start running and open faster when you want to use them. It is helpful if you use the programs a lot but annoying if you don’t use them. To fix this, you can disable the startup programs you don’t need.

Remove Malware

Malware is a severe problem that can cause your device to be slow. You should scan for malware and remove anything you find if you notice unexpected pop-ups, programs opening on their own, or your hard drive working constantly.

Do a Factory Reset

If all else fails, a factory reset can remove any changes that have slowed down your device. Often, this will tell you if your device needs to be replaced or if something has just been installed, slowing down your computer.

A slow computer is irritating. However, something on this list will likely remedy your problems and give you the needed speed.
